The annual firefly viewing season at Liyu Lake is here again! The East Longitudinal Valley National Scenic Area Administration, Tourism Administration, and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (hereinafter referred to as the Valley Administration) will be hosting the "2024 Liyu Lake Fireflies Festival - Seeing the Fireflies" event every Friday and Saturday evening from April 12 to May 4, 2024, at Liyu Lake. Online registration will be available on the official website starting from March 25, 2024!
Director Guo Zhen-Ling of the Valley Administration stated that the theme for 2024 will be "therapeutic," and a series of activities will be planned in the hope that visitors can put aside their weekday fatigue and enjoy a healing journey to the East Rift Valley. The first event of the year will be held in the spring at Liyu Lake, offering a "Therapeutic Encounter" to see the fireflies. To provide visitors with a richer firefly viewing experience, in addition to continuing to operate the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle "Firefly Viewing Shuttle Service" (departing from Hualien Bus Station at 18:00 every Saturday, with a ticket price of NT$120), visitors can exchange their ticket stubs for a "Rift Valley Transformers Stationery Set" or a "Handheld Electric Fan." Moreover, seasonal limited tours have been launched in collaboration with Hunters Tour - Taiwan Tour Bus and Lion Travel. Those who sign up for the firefly viewing tour with Hunters Tour - Taiwan Tour Bus can redeem a bottle of Wusay Lemon Mousse Dishwashing Liquid from the Langas Tribe in Ruisui at the event venue. Those who sign up for the firefly viewing tour with Lion Travel can redeem a bottle of Tea Tree Essential Oil from 197 Tea Tree Plantation and a raffle ticket.
In addition, visitors who successfully register for the "2024 Liyu Lake Fireflies Festival - Seeing the Fireflies" event on the Valley Administration's official website and stay at a legal accommodation in Hualien County on designated dates (April 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, and May 2, 3, 4, in 2024) can redeem a pack of Hualien-Taitung rice and a raffle ticket at the event venue by presenting their accommodation invoice or receipt. All raffle tickets will be randomly drawn by computer on May 8, 2024, to select 10 lucky winners who will receive exquisite gifts or accommodation vouchers.
Director Guo Zhen-Ling of the Valley Administration said that to ensure visitors have a joyful and memorable ecological tour, visitors are reminded that during the event period, vehicle control will be implemented on the Tannan Trail at Liyu Lake. Visitors who come to participate in the firefly viewing event should park their vehicles at the Tannan Parking Lot and walk into the event area. As the event area is an outdoor space, please be sure to follow the guidance of the tour guides and staff. Do not carry umbrellas, wear high heels or open-toed sandals to ensure personal safety. Also, please cooperate by covering your flashlights with "red cellophane" to reduce light pollution and avoid affecting the fireflies' ecological activities.
