Indigenous Festival

Earth-Shaking Songs and Dances
In the East Rift Valley National Scenic Area Taiwan's largest variety of Indigenous culture can be found. This area is rich in Ami, Puyuma, Bunun, Truko, and Sazikaya Aboriginal culture. Every July and August, a continuous series of harvest festival activities takes place. Full of ethnic features, they are the most important annual ceremonies of each Indigenous settlement. Through various traditional  sacrificial and song and dance
ceremonies, the tribal members pay homage to the protection provided them by their spirit-ancestors during the past year, and also pray for favorable weather and an abundant harvest in the coming year.

Although there is not much difference between the lifestyles of the present-day Indigenous and the Han Chinese, each of these groups still preserve a certain amount of traditional culture and customs, some of which have blended with modern-day features. During these summer days, through traditional, brightly colored costumes, plentiful cuisine, and inspirational dancing, the people sing to their hearts content, spreading joyous cheer, as they strive to continue passing down their native culture.

Would you like to personally experience the enthusiastic ebullience of the Indigenous, and their very moving traditional celebrations and dances? The summer is the peak season for the East Rift Valley tourism, and you are reminded to confirm the times of the sacrifices, and to arrange your accommodation before departing for this area!
