Of all the water sports on offer in the East Longitudinal Valley, the most famous and exciting has to be the "Xiuguluan River Rafting". In 1981, the Xiuguluan River was established as a major national rafting area. During the summer, which is the peak season of rafting, many brightly colored rafts can be seen descending, one-by-one on the 24-kilometer section of river from the Rueisuei Bridge to the Changhong Bridge, making a gorgeous sight. Over 20 hard-to-cross torrents and rapids provide a thrilling, exciting, and unforgettable tourist experience. The Xiuguluan River passes through canyon scenery, which, with its wonderful rocks, makes a lasting and memorable impression on the tourists. On the Ruigang Highway that winds along the river banks and around the mountains, there are countless vans going back and forth, taking passengers from one end to the other.
The East Coast National Scenic Area Administration set up the Ruisui Rafting Center on the banks of the Xiuguluan River at the southern end of the Ruisui Bridge. This service center, built with the outward appearance of a traditional Aboriginal building, provides information concerning the ecological resources of the Xiuguluan River. It also provides information on rafting and shows films on rafting safety. There is also a camping area. It provides tourists with all the information they need during the rafting season.
