The international marketing film for Hualien and Taitung, “East of Taiwan,” is honored in Portuguese ART & TRU International Tourism Film Festival.

For the promotion of overall tourism resources in Eastern Taiwan, the East Rift Valley National Scenic Area Administration, Tourism Bureau, MOTC (hereinafter referred to as “the Administration”) produced a three-minute international marketing and promotional film titled “East of Taiwan.” Yesterday (October 26th), this film was awarded Best Asian Film at the Portuguese ART & TRUTUR International Tourism Film Festival. It is the only Taiwanese film to receive an award at the Festival this year. Huang Yi-Ping, Section Chief of the Tourism Bureau, MOTC, and members of the production team—Director Liang Zong-Yu, Assistant Director Xu Qi-Shen, and actor Yukiya Oonishi, who plays the role of a Japanese father in the film —all flew to Leiria, Portugal to receive the award. During the Festival (October 23-27, 2018), the film will be screened to showcase the beauty of Hualien and Taitung to the world.

The Director of the Administration, Lin Wei-Ling, indicated that the film “East of Taiwan” is the first ever to break down jurisdictional boundaries and emphasize the themes of magnificent natural scenery, geological landscapes, and multicultural features in Hualien and Taitung. The film also presents three different travel scenarios: a Japanese family trip, a light trip by young Korean women, and in-depth travel by Western backpackers to attract visitors from different markets.

Films are one of the best tools for cross-border marketing. Through this film, the beauty of Hualien and Taitung can be shared with international travelers. Visit the Administration's YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/MemqYGInvD0) to view the award-winning film “East of Taiwan.” Or better yet, come to Hualien and Taitung in person to experience the spectacular views of mountains and seas, the relaxing atmosphere of small towns, the charm of indigenous tribes, and the glamour of diverse cultures!
