2026 Taiwan Indigenous Tourism Festival Delivers a Feast! Savoring Indigenous Flavors Through Travel, an Immersive Journey Brewed with Memorable Encounters!
The 2026 Taiwan Indigenous Tourism Festival — a celebration eagerly anticipated by visitors from across Taiwan and travelers from around the world — ran from Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28 in the main hall of Taipei Main Station. This annual cultural showcase marked its 13th consecutive year, organized by the Tourism Administration under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, working in partnership with seven National Scenic Area administrations and five central government agencies — the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of the Interior, Council of Indigenous Peoples, Ministry of Labor, and Ministry of Agriculture. This year's theme, "Indigenous Flavors, Unhurried Journeys," brought the tribal dining table onto the stage at Taipei Main Station, offering visitors a fully immersive tribal experience through signature cuisine, craft aesthetics, and music and dance celebrations, while promoting Taiwan's exclusive indigenous tribal culture to the world.
The opening ceremony took place at 10:30 a.m. on June 26, with the Yami Little Flying Fish Cultural Performance Troupe from Orchid Island setting the stage alight with a spirited ocean-themed performance. The children's captivating and endearing showcase immediately electrified the crowd. Distinguished international guests attended the event, including Ruth Evelin Pasaribu, Director of Tourism and Transportation at the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office in Taipei; Sandra Liang, Deputy Director of the American Institute in Taiwan, Taipei Office; Vinayak Chavan, Vice President of the India-Taipei Association; Irene Joan L. Tan, Director of the Development Cooperation Services at the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO); the Third Secretary of the Kingdom of Eswatini Embassy; and Senior Policy Researcher Chen Yi-an from the Australian Office. Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim and Administrative Deputy Minister of Transportation and Communications Lin Kuo-shian both delivered opening remarks, igniting enthusiasm throughout the venue.
Vice President Hsiao expressed that Indigenous Tourism serves as a gateway through which the international community can deepen its understanding of Taiwan. By encouraging domestic consumers to actively support tribal industries, this initiative not only creates opportunities for young tribal members to stay in their home communities and contribute to the local economy, but also carries the profound significance of sustaining cultural heritage. She extended a heartfelt invitation for all who cherish indigenous culture to first visit Taipei Main Station to experience this year's Taiwan Indigenous Tourism Festival, and then to plan a personal visit to any tribe that sparks their interest, immersing themselves in traditional culture and cuisine firsthand.
Administrative Deputy Minister Lin noted that tourism is the vehicle of culture, while culture is the very soul of tourism. To that end, the Tourism Administration has partnered with the Ministry of Labor to mentor young people in tribal communities, integrating AI and digital networks to strengthen their guiding capabilities — so that both domestic and international travelers can gain a clear, vibrant understanding of each region's distinct tribal culture. Now in its 13th year, the Taiwan Indigenous Tourism Festival was realized through cross-ministerial collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of the Interior, Council of Indigenous Peoples, Ministry of Labor, and Ministry of Agriculture, centering on the theme of "food" to showcase the unique character of tribal communities across Taiwan, collectively championing the extraordinary appeal of Taiwan's indigenous tribal culture and inspiring more visitors to journey to tribes throughout the country.
